There is a long standing belief that we only have one true love of our lives. The reality for many has shown than that is not necessarily true as we reorganize as our priorities as we get older, try different relationships for size and pile up a number of past relationships in the wake. So when/why does it become a problem when we acknowledge those past relationships while building a new one?
