Nerdy Black Bear is back with a new and very interesting hygiene post on how to trim and/or shave your genital area properly. Some men have perfected the techniques needed to have a well groomed crotch, but other men out there are still trying to figure it out, and believe me, I am in the later category. But along the way I have learned some lessons and have done a lot of research about the this topic that I believe will help you get started with the process.
When I was researching I found a hilarious myths men have came up with when shaving there private area, and the myth is that your penis gets bigger when you shave your privates, well sorry fellas this myth is not true your penis will not become bigger, a shaved crotch can give the illusion of a bigger penis if you are extremely bushy, but if you expected a bigger penis from this post then your out of luck.
Getting The Right Tools
Buy a beard or hair trimmer and trim the pubic area to less than 1/4". This will make the hair easier to shave later. Longer hair is more likely to clog a razor. Using a beard trimmer will work better than scissors and it will cut the hair shorter. If you use a clipper make sure you use a 0 or 1 blade on it, if you do it will cut almost as close as a razor blade.
Avoid using an electric razor on the scrotum. The skin of the scrotum is so thin and loose that it can be caught by the shaver, and this is extremely painful. If for some reason you still feel you should use a men's electric razor, avoid shaving down the center of the underside of the penis and on the center of the scrotum, as a cut there is also extremely painful. Try not to get an erection because you may cut yourself.
Here are some examples of grooming tools that may help you in the process of genital grooming,

Different Positions for Shaving
After you shave your long hair off your scrotum the first time in the bathroom, you can shave your scrotum more easily by lying on your bed on your back. But you will need to shave your scrotum frequently before the hairs get real long again. A double-blade razor works really well, and you should not need to use shaving cream. If you think you always need to use shaving cream, then you will always have to shave your scrotum in the bathroom. But it's a lot easier to lie down when shaving the scrotum, or do it while sitting down, works any way.
Ensure the room you are using for shaving will be private for at least an hour (or however long you think the process will take). This is not something you want to rush through! Consider shaving late at night.
Consider shaving sitting in a very shallow hot bath. The hot water in the bath will prepare the area for shaving better than showering. Your body will be very stable (you are sitting down) and your genitals are very accessible. You also have a handy source of water in which to rinse the razor. If this is not possible consider shaving sitting down, ideally on the floor for ease of access and stability.
If you use the edge of a toilet seat to sit on, letting your pubic area sit over a garbage can or on top of a towel while shaving, the mess will be next to nothing to clean up. If you prefer standing, try shaving in your shower. Just make sure to stand out of the water to avoid watering down your shave lather, and constantly rinse your blade.
The Shaving Process
Lather the area with shaving cream intended for sensitive skin such as Cotch Cream. Avoid menthol or heavily scented creams as they will irritate the area. Using an antibacterial shaving gel will minimize irritation caused by bacteria getting into your pores and hair follicles. Also, these types of shave gels are clear, allowing you to see the terrain as you shave. When you finished shaving rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat the shaved area gently.
The first few days you will feel wonderful and clean, until the hair start growing back and the irritation start to set in. To handle this you will need an Antiseptic Cream to calm the irritation, the cream will also help with coming bumps. keeping the shaving area clean can also prevent itching and irritation.
I hope this helps you guys who prefer the clean look. If you're going to shave such a sensitive area make sure you do it right. Good luck and until next time, keep it clean.
