Get to Know The Lynx!: New Contributor to M3

Lynx Bear on Youtube

1. What is your full name? Do you have a nickname no one calls you anymore?

Lance Christopher Miller. Nicknames… hmmmm… my mother still calls me Poindexter (I am a bit of a nerd), but those close knows Lancifer. Yeah, I was given that nickname by a client when I was running a multimedia department in NYC. She heard me going off on someone who messed up royally. I then overheard her call me Lancifer over the phone. LOL. It stuck.

2. If given the choice of any person alive or dead with whom would you want over to dinner as a guest? Why?

It’d be a dinner party! Nicola Tesla, Malcolm X, Caesar, Cleopatra, and a random ancient prostitute from Babylon. Why… oh c’mon… Tesla figured out how to send electricity over the air for almost free. I want to know how! Malcolm X could give some insight into how to help the gay community realize their place among Americans. Caesar was just nuts so I think he would just be fun to fuck with. Cleopatra… who else am I gonna get the real T on Alexander from? A Babylonian prostitute…flavor. It’d be a party not to be missed.

3. Before making an important telephone call do you rehearse what it is you're going to say? What do you think about people who do?

I wing it. If I rehearse I am just going to get my internal script screwed up. Besides spontaneity is a big part of me!

4. Explain in as much detail as possible what would constitute a perfect day for you.
A perfect day…hmmm. A warm, 77 degree, slightly cloudy day… a Saturday. A long windy mountain road with no one else in sight will do. Unlimited gas and my car, Project A.D.A.M., going 120mph. Drifting corners. Back and forth… all day. I am a bit of a gear head.

5. When was the last time you sang to yourself or to someone else? Would you ever sing in public in honor of someone you love?

Ummm… probably this past fall. I am a karaoke fanatic! I enjoy reliving my days singing for an alternative band in my younger days. These days I just stick to karaoke.

6. If you could live to 100 and retain either your mind or your body at 30 for the rest of your life which would you choose?

Well I was rather heavy at 30 and not really happy. I would have to retain my mind. Hopefully by the time 100 comes around I can have a bionic body or something else equally cool. Fuck a hoveround.

7. Do you have a secret hunch about how you will die? Would you want to know exactly how when and where you will die?
I have a hunch I will die of natural causes actually. Would I want to know? Nah… I like surprises.

8. If you could change anything about the way you were raised what would it be?

My childhood was fucked really. It left me with a lot of scars. It also left me with a lot of strength. So I would venture to leave well enough alone there. All things happen the way they are meant to happen. These things can happen no other way. If it could have happened a different way… it would have.

9. If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one ability or quality what would it be and why?

If we are talking mutant abilities… Superboy powers! Flying... nuff said. If we are talking real life, I would like the ability to create stuff. Even if it was just blacksmithing to make weapons. Some form of craft trade ability would be fun. I can design a ring but can’t make one.

10. Is there something you have dreamed of doing for a long time? Why haven't you done it?

I always wanted to be muscular. Dreamed of it my entire life. I am doing it now… a year in. Took me 30-something years to get on the ball and take control. Aside from that, Sky diving. Why haven’t I? Black folk don’t do that type of shit, at least not the ones with common sense.

11. What is your most treasured memory? How would your personality or life change if you discovered that the memory was false?

Oh my… this is a hard one. Coming out to my mother. This is a woman who can punch a hole through even the strongest man. I came out and she was fine. In fact… everyone was fine. Everyone was more shocked that I was the gay one and that my asexual cousin was NOT the gay one. My life wouldn’t change if the memory was false. It allowed me to be open and not care about societies views on me. If the memory was false I still have that knowledge and lack of fear. Told ya I was nerd. ;-)

12. If you knew that in one year's time you'd die suddenly is there anything in your life you'd change right now?

I would move to Key West, sell tourists crap on the beach and just enjoy my last year in paradise.

13. What was the most embarrassing moment in your life? Do you still feel any embarrassment when you think about it?

The most embarrassing moment eh? Falling asleep while masturbating as a teenager. Apparently my mom had knocked then opened the door to turn my TV off. I didn’t hear her, I was stone cold sleep. The next day my mother tells me that “To women size matters and that any woman who says it doesn’t matter is lying. You will have no trouble in that department. Just remember to wrap it up.” I was mortified! For the rest of my time as a teenager at home I kept my masturbation to my shower time. This was also how I found out that cum turns into silly string upon contact with water. Does that sound like I am bragging about my cock? What? Too much?

14. When was the last time you cried in front of another person? By yourself?

Last year. I had a cancer scare and it took 6 months to figure out what the problem was. I had been strong the entire time. Then one night I was just ready for all of it to be over. I was so frustrated and angry. I started crying in bed with my BF next to me. He had never seen or heard me cry before and we had been together a few years at that point.

By myself, I honestly don’t know. It has been years.

15. What, if anything, is too serious to joke about? Why? Do people ever think of you as insensitive?

Too serious to joke about? Not a God Damn Thing!! Why? Because laughing at yourself is important before you can laugh at others. Have a sense of humor, as long as the intent is not malicious who cares.

Do people think I am insensitive?? See above. ;-)

16. What is the biggest misconception people have about you? Is there anything you can do to change it?

People tend to think I am either a criminal or mean. They see the tattoos, the height, the color and they automatically assume I am some tough guy. It has definitely worked in my favor tho. I can walk the street and no one fucks with me. In reality I am a Computer Tech, former Multimedia Designer. I listen to Madonna sometimes and would rather cuddle than fight (tho I am a bruiser).

17. When was the last time you were afraid that you were about to die? Did you feel grateful or lucky to be alive afterward?

HA! Yep… last year. After finding out what the issue really was and starting meds I felt very grateful to have tomorrow given back to me. I was given a wake up call. Enjoy your fucking life, tomorrow is not guaranteed to you. So I decided to do all of the things I have put off. I started with getting in shape. Thinking I was going to die has been the best thing to ever happen to me. The very real confrontation with my own mortality actually SAVED my life.

18. If you were to die tomorrow is there anything you wish you would have done? Not done?

I wish I would have visited my mother and sister more often. But I wouldn’t dwell on it because I am just that guy. We are a close family but not that needy sort of close. I would wish I didn’t waste so much time giving too much of a fuck about the bullshit that surrounds me.

19. If you were forced to flee a burning house and you could easily save any item without endangering your life or others, what would you save?

 My dog Brucifer.

20. What do you feel most ashamed about doing in your life? Most proud of?

I am ashamed of being so thirsty that I spent more time in a relationship than I should have. I was so needy, thirsty, anxious and scared to be alone. I let him do what he wanted to me til I just couldn’t take it anymore and finally had the balls to leave.

I am most proud of not becoming a monster given my past. I turned out pretty fucking good if I must say so myself. I am fiscally responsible a bit of an activist for civil rights, smart as fuck and better still, a good person.
